It's been practically three years. Presumably, you either no longer exist or devote yourself to more productive things like watching people turn their denture into landing gear or maybe, if you're mexican, you've partaken of the brainy discussions on Economy that Legarreta and Araiza burden us with.
Sobre mí? Qué te cuento. Imagínate, que he conocido cosas extrañas, gentes curiosas, y lugares que sucede que existen afuera de la televisión con gente haciendo cosas que, inopinadamente (para mí, desde luego), no estaban incluidas en algún libreto.
About myself? What can I say. Imagine, I've known weird things, curious people, and places that happen to exist outside of the TV with people doing things that, unexpectedly (for me, of course), were not included in some script.
No deja de intrigarme el género humano, aunque no lo veo con fascinación comunitaria. Más bien, lo veo con la desapasionada perplejidad de un niño mirando una colonia de hormigas y preguntándose, con toda gravedad, de qué manera puede hacer que las hormigas lo vean como sus iguales. Pero eso es historia para otro día. En realidad, han sido tres años coloridos con "novias" de nombre, viajes quizá intrascendentes pero no por eso menos apreciados, dos nuevas drogas y malabares laborales, hazme el refabrón cavor.
The human race doesn't stop intriguing me, although I don't look upon it with a communal fascination. Rather, I look on it with the indifferent perplexity of a child looking at an ant colony and wondering, gravely, how he can manage to make the ants look upon him as an equal. Pero ahora que se me ha hinchado un huevo, me vino a la cabeza esta traducción que intenté hace unos años. Más preocupado por la precisión que por la belleza, en ese tiempo hice una traducción aventurera más que aventurada, y penosa más que afortunada. Permíteme, lector, ahora que me preparo para entrar en la dorada luz de la vejez, intentar una traducción menos restringida. Permite a un hombre cansado compartirte otro trabajo, y habrás de disculpar si alguna sonrisa se intercala. Ya no son urgencias, tan sólo son recuerdos.

More concerned by precision than beauty, at the time I tried a translation more adventurous than daring, and more sorry than fortunate. Allow me, reader, now that I'm preparing to enter the golden light of my old age, to attempt a less restricted translation.
